The evening, considered

How to plan a mystery date night for two at home.

Spend an evening solving an online mystery together. Choose a case, open it in your browser and share one screen as you follow the evidence.

An online mystery, one shared screen.

Case & Candle makes online mystery games for one or two adults. For an evening together, open the case in a browser on a laptop or tablet and read the evidence on the same screen. There is no app to install or printing to prepare.

Read the opening briefing, examine the records and compare your explanations. Use the in-game Notebook to keep track of questions as you work towards a conclusion supported by the evidence.

A simple plan for your mystery date night.

  1. Choose together. Read the premise and content note before buying. Our murder mystery game for two page explains the shared-screen format and compares the free and paid cases.
  2. Leave time to discuss. Set aside an unhurried sitting for The Shortest Day, including time to talk about the ending. Reading speeds vary, and there is no enforced timer.
  3. Agree on how to share. Swap control after each record. Let each person finish reading before scrolling, and each suggest an answer before deciding together.
  4. Compare your first and final theories. After the reveal, revisit the clue that changed your mind. That conversation is part of the evening.

Make the records easy to read.

Place your laptop or tablet where neither person has to lean around the other. Try reading a full paragraph from both seats before you begin. Keep the charger nearby and clear enough space to move the screen.

Snacks and low lighting are optional. Keep enough light to read comfortably, and put anything distracting out of reach. The useful preparation is making it easy to stay with the evidence.

Give both theories a hearing.

Take turns controlling the screen. After reading a record, each say what stood out before settling on a shared explanation. One person might notice a time; the other might question a phrase.

Keep notes in two parts: what the record establishes, and what you think it means. When a theory changes, keep the earlier version long enough to ask why. These are suggestions for sharing the investigation, not extra rules you have to follow.

When you disagree, return to the source.

Open the record you are discussing. Is the disputed detail something someone observed, something they claimed, or something you inferred? Ask which other record could support or challenge it.

When You Hear My Voice includes optional hints that become more specific one step at a time. Read one, talk about it, then decide whether to reveal more. If you take a break, check the in-game save status before leaving and return in the same browser on the same device. Our save guidance explains how progress is stored.

Choose a story you both want to investigate.

Our paid mystery, When You Hear My Voice, begins with a plea from a locked room, a voice over the speakers and a death. Its case page introduces the investigation without revealing the solution.

Read the story’s content note together before choosing. When You Hear My Voice is written for adults and includes themes of coercive control and intimate-partner abuse.

Prefer a mystery without violence? Everything Went to Plan begins after a hotel robbery, when the person who planned it disappears. Investigate messages, accounts and hotel records. Its themes include theft, a past false accusation, gambling debt and mild peril.
